Peter Fugazzotto is a writer of fantasy and science fiction. His short story “Jiro” was published in Heroic Fantasy Quarterly in 2013. His short story “The King Beneath the Waves” was published in Grimdark Magazine in 2015. His fantasy series The Hounds of North was launched with the release of The Witch of the Sands in 2014.
He is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing. He had supplemented his writing education through class/workshops with Terry Brooks, James D’Allessandro, and others.
His favorite authors include Robert E. Howard, Laird Barron, Joe Abercrombie, Joseph Conrad, Seamus Heaney and Jean Claude Izzo.
While he has been writing since he was a child, after graduating from college, he became active in the grassroots environmental movement. He coordinated the media portion of a campaign that convinced an oil company to stop dumping toxics in San Francisco Bay. He talked strategy and drank martinis with the legendary Dave Brower. He snuck into a press conference to challenge Vice President Al Gore around global trade policies. He avoided tear gas and arrest at the Battle of Seattle. He traveled to Papua New Guinea to launch community-based sea turtle conservation programs. He has raised millions of dollars for environmental causes.
In addition to his writing, he is a lifelong student of the martial arts, is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and has won a Masters World Championship in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2013 (purple belt, senior 3, light feather). Arts he has studied include the grappling arts of judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu, the striking arts of karate, and the Chinese internal fighting arts of bagua, xingyi and taiji. He has also studied weapons including Western fencing, the Philippine bladed arts of kali and escrima, and Dog Brother-style sticking fighting.
To balance out his martial arts, he has practiced the Feldenkrais Method, and taught weekly group classes focused on improving movement and function.
He has traveled extensively. During a high school summer, he vaccinated community members in the rainforests of the Ecuadorian Amazon against yellow fever. He spent a university semester in a villa overlooking Florence, Italy and once held by Nazi occupiers. He traveled by Russian army truck and speedboat through Laos. He has swam with the dolphins and turtles in the warm waters of Hawaii.
He lives in Northern California. Every morning he sits down to the desk to chip away at his stories after a quick espresso.
